November 5, 2026
Most of what opened in Montecito this year went into spaces that were already there. A coffee bar at The Post now pours wine after dark. A Coast Village Road patio sells farm produce in the morning before it seats anyone for lunch. The Upper Village patio that sat empty after Via Vai closed is busy again on dinner nights. And the next project on Coast Village Road plans to fit three businesses behind one door. Taken together, the change in 2026 is less about new places and more about new hours. From 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., the same few rooms are carrying more of the day.
What follows is that day, in order. The address in each case matters less than the clock.
Little King Coffee's location at The Post Montecito, 1801 East Cabrillo Boulevard, opens at 7 a.m. and closes at 4 p.m. every day, according to the company's own location page. For most of the year that was the room's whole day.
Since late summer the room has a second shift. Vic's Wine Bar opened in the same space, and from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday it turns Little King into what co-owner Aleah Schepps Elisara described to the Santa Barbara News-Press as a nook with a "nighttime elevated" ambiance. The Santa Barbara Independent and Edhat both reported the same Friday-to-Sunday evening hours in September, and Vic's website lists "5 til 9."
The wine list is split between local bottles and imports from Europe. The model comes from abroad too. Aleah and her husband, Ethan Elisara, named the bar after Ethan's Aunt Victoria from New Zealand. The News-Press reported that it is inspired by Kiwi cafés, many of which add an evening service such as a jazz club. Both attended Westmont College. According to the News-Press, they hosted more than 100 dinners in their 250-square-foot apartment the year before opening. "We just want it to be someone's neighborhood spot," Aleah told the paper.
So a room that used to go dark at 4 p.m. is now open 13 hours on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, across a 14-hour span with a one-hour break at 4 p.m.
On Coast Village Road, the same idea runs in the other direction. Monte's, at 1198 Coast Village Road, opened in May in the former Bar Lou space as Endwell Hospitality's first project in the area. Most of its produce comes from the group's own Rincon Hill Farm, an eight-acre regenerative farm in Carpinteria, the Independent reported.
On Fridays the patio opens as a farmers market before it opens as a restaurant. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the weekly market sells freshly harvested produce from Rincon Hill Farm, along with the farm's own dried and pickled goods. In the Independent's words, these are "the same seasonal fruits, vegetables, and herbs" Executive Chef Daniel Kim cooks with in the kitchen. The Independent described the market as running weekly in its October 1 story. A quick look at montessb.com before a holiday-week Friday is sensible.
Here is how a single Friday at that one address now breaks down, using the hours on Monte's own site:
| Time | What 1198 Coast Village Road is doing |
|---|---|
| 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. | Farmers market on the patio, produce from Rincon Hill Farm |
| 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. | Lunch service, Wednesday through Sunday |
| 3 to 5 p.m. | Happy hour, Monday through Friday |
| 5 to 8:30 p.m. | Dinner, nightly |
That makes four uses on one patio in about ten and a half hours. The Independent's October story gave lunch as ending at 2 p.m., and the restaurant's site now says 2:30.
Lunch is the newest of the four. Kim told the Independent he kept the Korean-Californian approach of the dinner menu but leaned further into his Korean heritage for midday. The lunch menu includes a Korean Fried Chicken Sandwich with savoy cabbage kimchi slaw, a Chicken Bulgogi Rice Bowl with ginger-scallion sauce and Koshihikari rice, a Rincon Hill Farm Mushroom Rice Bowl, and Grilled Korean Short Rib Frites with Korean miso butter. The Prawn Toast from the dinner menu is offered at lunch too. A Friday visit can start at the market and end at a table on the same patio.
The Upper Village shows the pattern from the other end. In this case the space itself had gone unused. Via Vai held 1483 East Valley Road for 30 years and closed in early 2024. Chef Luca Crestanelli signed a lease that fall, the Independent reported, and Ancora Osteria opened on August 13, 2026. "I've always loved this location," he told the paper. "It was the first restaurant I ever dined at in Santa Barbara."
Crestanelli owns the restaurant with his brother, Francesco Crestanelli, and Norman Borgatello. The Santa Ynez Valley already knows his cooking from S.Y. Kitchen in Santa Ynez, open since 2013, Nella in Los Olivos and the counter-service Stica. At Ancora the menu combines S.Y. Kitchen's starters, salads and handmade pasta with Nella's heartier entrées and pinsa, the airy fermented-dough pizza from Rome. According to the News-Press, appetizers run around $20 and mains about $39 to $55. Some S.Y. Kitchen favorites made the trip, including the beet salad and the mushroom frittata.
Ancora is the one newcomer here working a single shift. Its FAQ lists dinner Thursday through Monday, 5 to 9 p.m., closed Tuesday and Wednesday, and says the restaurant is open for dinner only. In August, Crestanelli told the News-Press he planned to expand hours eventually. The Independent reported that early tables were booked more than three weeks out. Crestanelli was spending about 90 percent of his time at Ancora, working on consistency. "Anyone can cook a good meal once," he told the paper.
He has also described the room as a place for more than one kind of evening. As he told the News-Press, he wants it to feel comfortable whether diners come "straight from a hike" or to celebrate. "Hopefully, this is gonna become another place where people meet and celebrate lots of visions, or just simply take some food home."
Coast Village Road's newest retail fills the hours between those meals. Margaret O'Leary opened a boutique at 1235 Coast Village Road, Suite C. Noozhawk reported that the shop is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, and that the designer herself attended the opening. Marfa Stance shows its Montecito store as "Now Open" at 1024H Coast Village Road on the brand's own store page. That is the former I Heart Montecito Art Gallery space at the Country Mart. Those hours overlap with Monte's lunch and happy hour. The same few blocks now hold a lunch, an errand and an early drink.
The 2026 openings added extra uses to spaces one at a time. The next project on Coast Village Road is designed with several uses from the start. Dave Cantin is converting 1080 Coast Village Road into Sally Boy's Montecito, which the Montecito Journal reported is planned as a pizza-by-the-slice shop, a market and a morning coffee shop in one address. In August the Journal relayed Cantin's plan to start construction by late summer, with a goal of opening before the end of the year. Siteline Santa Barbara reported the same year-end target in April. With about eight weeks left in 2026, that is still a stated plan, not an opening date.
The street adds its own evening four weeks from now. The Coast Village Association's annual tree lighting is set for Thursday, December 3, 2026, from 4 to 6 p.m. on Coast Village Road. It features a Santa Barbara Ballet performance, a Santa Barbara Youth Symphony quartet and caroling by the Santa Barbara Madrigals, according to the association's event page. The lighting ends at 6 p.m. Dinner at Monte's runs until 8:30, so the evening can continue a few doors down at 1198 Coast Village Road.
